DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

Restoring Alignment, Balance, and Function

Chances are you have never heard of restorative exercises for postural alignment. Or someone may have mentioned it to you but you are not sure what it is or whether it is a right fit for you. 
A short description of my services would be “Personal Training for better alignment using restorative exercises and better alignment practices during regular activities such as standing, sitting, walking, bending, gardening, etc.”

While I often teach short classes at Assabet After Dark school in Marlborough, MA, I mostly work with my clients one-on-one at my studio in Hudson, MA (by appointment only).

Below is a short description of what happens during one-on-one sessions.

 

INITIAL
APPOINTMENT

Initial appointment typically lasts from 90 minutes to 2 hours

During this time, we will discuss what chronic pain, balance issues, or other symptoms you may have and how you may benefit from improving your alignment. 

After  going through your medical history and discussing your daily activities as well as functional limitations you may or may not have, I will evaluate your current postural alignment. This includes taking photographs of your body in frontal and sagittal planes, some functional tests and gait analysis to determine misalignments that may be contributing to your pain or movement limitations.

I will explain my findings to you and, based on my assessment, I will create your individualized postural alignment program. It will include recommendations on how to improve your postural habits plus a set of restorative exercises for your specific issues.  We’ll go through the whole routine together so you will learn how to do these exercises correctly and how to modify them if needed. I’ll try to answer any questions you may have.

After your initial visit, I will email your photographs marked up with lines helping you to understand your postural deviations.

Along with your initial photos, you will receive what I call your exercise “menu” that has instructions, descriptions, and visual examples of all the exercises you did during the visit.

SUBSEQUENT VISITS

Subsequent visit: 60–90 Minutes

 

We will discuss your experience with the exercises and, depending on your postural improvement, the following will happen:

  • adjustments will be made to your existing menu.
  • a revised menu will be created.

Each restorative menu consists of exercises that focus on certain misalignments, and some improvement needs to to be seen before we can move to the next routine. 

Many of the exercises have progressively increasing level of alignment detail, in order to work on the muscles and tissues you need to address. You will learn that many of the familiar exercises you may have been doing for a long time were not targeting the muscles group you expected. Alignment matters, and my role is to teach you to recognize where your alignment is poor. 

The question I hear often is “How long do I have to work with you?”. It is totally up to you.
As a Restorative Exercise Specialist and Personal Trainer, I can always find more areas to work on your alignment improvement. 

We live in the environment that is not conducive to our musculoskeletal health. Therefore, I do my best to provide you with corrective exercises, alignment tips, links to educational material and exercise equipment to help you to stay healthy and functional at any age. You may continue seeing me  once every few weeks or may decide to sign up for online classes, or to buy video downloads. I’ll be happy to provide links for educational and video training programs I recommend. There are many cost-effective options available even if you cannot afford one-on-one sessions.
